Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that the withdrawal of the Armenian Armed Forces from the territory of Nagorno Karabakh region is the only condition of Baku, and if Yerevan fulfills it, the fighting will stop, the Interfax reports.
Armenia must abandon its occupation policy. Instead, the Armenian prime minister sets prerequisites for us, he set seven conditions for us. I said not so long ago that we reject these conditions. Our only condition is that the Armenian Armed Forces must leave our lands unconditionally, fully, and immediately, Ilham Aliyev noted.
Earlier, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry issued a statement calling on the OSCE Minsk Group to demand that Armenia withdraw its troops from the Nagorno Karabakh territory. Until that time, Azerbaijan will continue its legitimate military operations.
Intense fire has been going on in the region since the early morning of September 27. Yerevan and Baku accuse each other of attacks and provocations. Both capitals regularly issue contradictory reports about the enemy’s downed equipment and military losses.
The Russian Foreign Ministry urges the parties to immediately end hostilities. The day before, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called Russia and France presidents regarding the escalation. The Russian president told Pashinyan that the Kremlin is concerned about what was happening.
The international community says that Karabakh belongs to Azerbaijan, but stands for continuing the negotiation process and against any attempts to resolve the territorial dispute by force.
