3% of Russian spendings go on alcohol and tobacco

An average of 3% of total Russian spendings in 2018 went on alcoholic beverages and tobacco products.

In some of the regions, this number is even higher. Thus, alcohol and tobacco spending in Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug amounted to 5.7% of total expenses, in Jewish Autonomous Region to 6%, and in the Republic of Khakassia and the Kostroma Region to 4.3%.

The regions that spent the least on these products were the Chechen Republic, the Republic of Ingushetia, the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, the Republic of Dagestan and the Tambov Region.

Moscow and St. Petersburg residents spent 3.4% and 2.7% respectively, according to the data of the Russian federal state statistics service.
