Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has urged the government to accelerate the development of genetic technologies used in agriculture, industry and for the control of biological threats.

Our task is to accelerate the development of such technologies, including those that will be used in industry and agriculture, will become the basis for increasing their competitiveness, will protect against biological threats, reports Politica Segodnya media quoting the Prime Minister.

Medvedev added that Russia should get into the world's top five countries possessing such technologies to be independent of foreign innovations.

Earlier this fall Dmitry Medvedev stated the need to develop the new potato seeds so as not to be left this highly popular vegetable. He stressed that the work of geneticists in this matter is critically important.
