Israel thanks Putin for Red Army's liberation of Auschwitz

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for the liberation of Auschwitz in 1945.

The Israeli Minister held the meeting with the Russian leader who arrived in Jerusalem today, reports RIA Novosti news agency. Israel Katz greeted Putin and thanked him for the Red Army's role in fighting Nazi Germany and the liberating of Auschwitz.

I want to personally thank you for the liberation because my mother was one of those who were in a concentration camp and was freed thanks to the Red Army, the Minister shared.

Earlier, NEWS.ru reported that Putin arrived in Israel on January 23 for the first time in eight years. He will take part in the World Holocaust Forum, which focuses on Holocaust memory and fighting anti-Semitism.
