Paris will continue to fulfill its commitments under the Open Skies Treaty, but regrets that the US has withdrawn from this agreement, a representative of the French Foreign Ministry said at a briefing, RIA Novosti reports.

The French authorities will conduct a dialogue with the new US administration on arms control.

We also regret the decision of the US to withdraw from the Open Skies Treaty, which provides us with high transparency and predictability in the field of military activities, in particular in relations with Russia, the French diplomat noted.

He stressed that the issue of arms control is an essential tool for maintaining a strategic balance in the world.

The US withdrew from the Open Skies Treaty on the night of November 22. After that, the Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that the US withdrawal from the agreement makes it unviable. Moscow will seek fulfillment of commitments from the remaining members of the agreement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

NEWS.ru reported earlier that US Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), a Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said the United States and its allies are 'less secure against Russia' after the US withdrawal from the Open Skies Treaty.

According to his statement posted on the Committee website, Trump's decision to withdraw from the Open Skies Treaty is reckless.
