The population of Azerbaijan will receive the CoronaVac vaccine against the coronavirus developed in China, Teymur Musaev, a representative of the Ministry of Health of the Republic, has said.

He specified that Azerbaijan ordered 4,000,000 doses of the drug. Initially, the vaccine will be delivered to Turkey for laboratory testing for compliance with standards, and then it will arrive in the republic.

Presidential aide Shahmar Movsumov, in turn, noted that vaccination in Azerbaijan would start next week.

A decision was made to start vaccination against coronavirus from January 18, TASS quotes him.

He explained that health workers would be vaccinated in the first place, and citizens at the age of over 65 will receive the jab from February 1.

The country's coronavirus tally exceeds 226,000. The deadly pathogen has claimed around 3,000 lives nationwide.

NEWS.ru reported earlier that Pfizer decided to cut the vaccine shipments to Europe.
